That Window Seat

That window seat
in the corner
is a coveted one.

The light shines through
the bamboo blinds
lighting up your pot of tea
and your spirit.

The smileys may be burnt today
and the customary mayonnaise forgotten;
(and brought later after a reminder)
but all’s forgiven
when you’re at that window seat.

The scrambled eggs sans some salt
The iced tea with too much ice;
but everything tastes better
at that window seat.

It has witnessed
eras, generations,
secrets and whispers,
changing governments,
changing times.

The old world charm,
the buzz of the chatter,
the clink of the cutlery,
are best enjoyed
from that window seat.

The (abysmal) service
and coffee
is the same
at every table –
over the years,
over the conversations,
over the laughter,
over the hours spent,
over the memories made.

But over all these years
that window seat
in the corner
is a coveted one.

That window seat
in the corner
is a special one.
